2170XD Features
The Hesston MF2170XD “Extra Density” large square baler is designed to produce an approximately 15% denser bale than our standard 3x4 baler, without compromising the Hesston tradition of proven high capacity baling and durability. To supply this extra weight, the XD baler is equipped with larger tension cylinders, larger plunger arms, and a larger and heavier flywheel, which is almost doubled in size.

Baler Drives
Massey Ferguson Hesston Series large square balers are built for long life and ease of maintenance.
Hesston Series Models 2190 (4x4) uses only six drive chains from the massive gearbox while Model 2170 (3x4) and Model 2150 (3x3) use only five. New for 2007 the Model 2190 (4x4) baling capacity has been increased by 30%. All three large square balers have a heavier flywheel design to maintain inertia while not drawing excessive tractor power. The main drive from the tractor is slipclutch protected; the packer and pickup, which are not timed, are also slipclutch protected.
The stuffer and knotter which are timed are design for simple trouble-free use. The Hesston Series large square balers timing is the easiest to set on the market.

Pickup
The Hesston Series wide, low profile design deliver superior pick-up.
By reducing the pickup bars from five to four bars on the Model 2190, Massey Ferguson was able to lower the effective height of the pickup even more. This means that crop travels less distance to the pre-compression chamber before becoming a flake in the bale. Our centering augers move the crop from the wide pickup towards the middle to start forming the flake.
With standard hydraulic pickup lift and gauge wheels this baler can clear most obstacles. The pickup flotation has been improved from a spring loaded flotation to an adjustable torsion bar design.

Pre-Compression and Bale Chamber
The simple but efficient design pre-forms the flake in the pre-compression chamber before moving the crop to the plunger to form the bale.
By using a pre-compression chamber, the operator is able to bale consistent bales without worrying about the windrow size or baler speed. Our system does not move the flake to the bale chamber until a full flake is formed. Compare this to the competitors who move the crop from the ground directly to the bale chamber and you will appreciate the solid, square, consistent bales from the Hesston Series baler.

Knotters
The double knotter system maintains that perfect bale after it leaves the chamber throughout transport.
Models 2190 and 2170 have six knotters while Model 2150 has four knotters. The unique double knotter system prevents tension from being put on the twine or knotter until the second knot is tied. Twine is fed from the top and the bottom of the bale to achieve this effect. When the bale begins a knot is tied to connect two ends of twine. The twine moves with the bale instead of forming the bale with the twine under high tension which can cause twine breakage.
After the desired bale length has been reached, the second knot is tied to finish the bale. The knotter fan has been improved to move more debris from the knotters which can cause mis-ties. The fan is automatically lubricated from a reservoir on the baler, and with new onboard hydraulics the knotter lube and fan do not need the tractor hydraulics to run.

Pre-Cutter
With the factory-installed cutter option, you can pre-cut the crop down to a 1.9" length for more palatable hay.
A pre-cutter can reduce the grind and mix times needed to feed your herd. Available on Models 2150 and 2170, and coming in 2008 for the 2190 this option works well for the beef or dairy farmer as well as the custom operator. The knives are spring loaded for protection. The knives are also removable and easily serviceable and with many combinations of how many knives to use your choices for crop length are increased.

Mainframe
From the shielding to the tandem axles, these balers were designed to perform.
The new Hesston Series balers are ISO compliant so whether you have a tractor with new technology or older models our baler will work for you. For older tractors use our AGCO Global Technologies color monitor to make the baler efficiently work for you. If your tractor is ISOBUS capable use your tractor monitor and plug the baler in and you are reaThe new shielding on Models 2150, 2170 and 2190 are not only aesthetically appealing but also mechanically better. The twine boxes have been increased to 30 balls of twine yet take up less space thanks to the 30 degree angle that the twine sits on. The twine area is sealed with the shielding shut reducing chaff build-up. The side shields are now a single door on each side.
The saved space from the twine box is now used for service area. Plus we added three switched light areas to help with service and twine loading at night.
The Model 2190 now has the steerable tandem axle option, like the 2150 and 2170, available to reduce compaction.y to go.
